Description
NoviHes is Hydroxyethyl Starch (HES) 130/0.4 in balanced electrolyte solution prescribed to treat fluid replacement due to trauma and heavy blood loss. It replenishes the body fluid and prevent dehydration. It protects the patient from dehydration and electrolyte imbalance after any trauma or injury. Appropriate fluid replacement is very essential to restore normal brain activity and other vital functions of the body to promote healing as well as speedy recovery.
Indications
- For prophylaxis and treatment of hypovolemia
- Hypovolemia is associated with disturbances in macro- and microcirculation. Macro- and microcirculation disturbances give rise to diminished organ blood flow and decreased oxygen supply to various organs, and finally to functional organ failure
- It is not a substitute for red blood cells or coagulation factors in plasma

Dosage: Infusions up to 33 mL/kg/day were most used. There is limited experience with infusions between 33 mL/kg/day and 50 mL/kg/day.
The initial 10-20 mL is to be infused slowly, keeping the patient under close observation for possible anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions.
NoviHes can be administered repetitively over several days according to the patient’s needs. The dosage and duration of treatment depends on the duration and extent of hypovolemia, the hemodynamics and on the hemodilution.
